I am happy to say that the Derry & Raphoe Historic Libraries in Context Conference preceded this week and went very well. The conference lasted two days and featured 15 speakers talking about a variety of topics including other small diocesan libraries, the printing and binding trade throughout Ireland, and conservation techniques used by the Derry & Raphoe team among other topics. Delegates included other conservators, historians, scholars and book and library enthusiasts.
As a conservator myself I was a bit skeptical about sitting though some of the talks that were more focused on history and the book trade, however after listening to the talks I can say that they proved to be very interesting and informative. In particular I enjoyed learning about the other diocesan libraries and their links with Derry & Raphoe. Additionally I very much enjoyed meeting the other delegates and learning more about their experiences and backgrounds in the library world. May I say many thanks to the other speakers and conference attendees as well as Mary Delargy who worked so hard to make the conference a true success.
